About This Dog
Marley is a 2-year-old Jack Russell Terrier (born April 2024) with a distinctive and unusual appearance. I am rehoming Marley on behalf of his current owners. Marley is the puppy from my own two dogs, and I care deeply about ensuring that every dog I breed has the best possible future. Unfortunately, due to circumstances within his adoptive family, his placement has not worked out, and I am now helping to find him a suitable new home.
Marley will need an owner who understands the Jack Russell breed and is willing to invest time, patience, and consistency into his training. He has some behavioural challenges that will require ongoing work, but I firmly believe he has the potential to become a wonderful companion in the right environment.
Marley's parents and siblings all have excellent temperaments, which gives me confidence that many of his difficulties are learned behaviours rather than an inherent part of his nature. With clear boundaries, positive reinforcement, and consistency, I believe Marley can make significant progress.
He is a bright and intelligent dog who already knows a variety of tricks. Once he trusts someone, he is affectionate, loving, and enjoys cuddling up on the sofa with his owner. He is an energetic young dog who requires regular, high-quality exercise and mental stimulation.
Marley's current challenges include:
- Resource guarding.
- Nervousness around unfamiliar people, which can sometimes result in growling when meeting new individuals.
- Becoming overwhelmed when overtired, overstimulated, or too hot, at which times he prefers to have his own space.
- Reactivity towards entire male dogs. He gets along well with female dogs and neutered males.
I would recommend that Marley be neutered, as his current owners have not yet had this done.
It is important to understand that moving to a new home is likely to be stressful for Marley. During the first few weeks, he may not show his best side and may appear more reactive while he adjusts to his new surroundings. Any prospective owner should be prepared to give him time to settle, build trust at his pace, and work patiently on his training.
For someone willing to put in that commitment, I am confident Marley will show what a loving, loyal, intelligent, and affectionate dog he can be. He is not the right dog for everyone, but for the right person, he has the potential to become an incredibly rewarding companion.
Please get in touch if you would like to discuss Marley further and feel you could offer him the experienced, understanding home he needs.
