About This Dog for Adoption
Otto's ideal home
Otto is a 6-year-old Jack Russell Terrier with a curious nature, a busy nose and a real zest for life. He is a friendly boy who enjoys human company, although he prefers affection in small doses and is often happier heading off to investigate his surroundings and enjoy a good sniff. He would suit adopters who appreciate a more independent character and who are happy to let Otto enjoy the world in his own way.
Otto needs to be the only dog in the home, as he is reactive to other dogs and can find their presence overwhelming. Ideally, his new home would not have dogs living in neighbouring properties as he can anticipate other dogs being nearby and may bark along fence lines if he thinks there is canine company next door. He has no history of living with other animals.
Walks should take place in quieter areas where Otto can feel more settled and supported. When out in public, he will need to be kept on lead and walked using a harness with a two-point contact which helps him feel secure and allows his handlers to manage his reactions to the environment and other dogs safely and calmly.
Otto will need a secure, private garden with solid panel fencing, giving him a safe outdoor space where he can relax, explore and enjoy his zoomies without worrying about what is happening beyond the boundaries.
Otto has no previous history of being left alone for long periods and this will need to be built up slowly and carefully in the home. He has shown he is not overkeen on the kennel environment, so his adopters should be prepared to take things at his pace and focus on helping him feel safe and settled as he adjusts to home life.
Otto is suitable for a home with children aged 14 and over who can understand and respect his boundaries. He is happy to have regular visitors as long as they are calm, patient and understanding of his needs.
Could you be Otto's perfect match?
Otto is a beautiful little terrier with plenty of character packed into his small frame. He is very curious about the world around him and loves a sudden burst of zoomies when the mood strikes. While he enjoys a little fuss, he is not overly tactile and generally has more important things to be doing, especially when there are interesting scents to follow.
Otto has not had any previous training and is currently not house trained, so his new family will need to be ready to start from the basics using kind, positive reinforcement methods. He will benefit from focus work and recall training to help him progress with his basic obedience and build confidence when out and about.
One of Otto’s lovely strengths is how well he travels. He enjoys being in the car and would be very happy to head out on calm adventures with his people, particularly to quiet places where he can explore at his own pace.
Otto will suit someone who understands terrier energy, enjoys working with a dog who has a mind of his own and is happy to put time into helping him feel safe, settled and supported. With patience, structure and understanding, Otto has the potential to be a hugely rewarding companion with lots of charm to share.
